Being an activist conjures up visions of a loud woman with her sleeves rolled up at a demo or standing in front of a crowd performing speeches and hassling politicians.
I would like to do those things of course, and I probably will at some point, but for now my activism is created in my studio.
All my work at the moment is about the fight for feminine equality and will remain so for the foreseeable future. I am also working on a new film with a dancer called 'The Journey'. It is a film about mental health and recovery from trauma and is directly based on the female experience.
I will draw on my own experience of abuse and recovery of course but also hope to tap into the bigger picture of inequality and treatment of our gender.
As an artist, this is my way to protest and my way to be an activist.
